"Observing, recording, and interpreting physical details of nature generate the visual and metaphorical language in my work. Influenced by the drought in the southwest, I am alert to the contrast of local landscapes - lush, moist green grass versus the brittle, dry desert on the edge of burning. The "Over" series incorporates the use of compound words to identify and underscore the meaning and the making of the work. Overcast, overlap, overleaf, overlay, overhead consider aspects of making the work that relates to the position, movement, and excess while reinforcing the compound way that I work - mixing and layering wool over wood, image over color, burning over printing, idea over design."
