"I am fascinated by the formal elements of design - the interaction of shape and line, the contrast of values, subtle variations in colors, and the ways in which colors affect each other. Much of my design training was in architecture school. Architecture has been a great influence on my work. Other influences include twentieth century abstract paintings and nineteenth century scrap quilts. Over the years I have shifted from using commercial fabrics to dyeing and screen-printing my own fabrics. Even thought I find these processes fascinating, my favorite part of quiltmaking is still designing and piercing a quilt top."
