Marian Bijlenga uses fiber, light and shadow to make sculptural objects and develops structures. She employs materials such as cotton, paper, horsehair, and monofilament. It is not the material that is the cornerstone for her work, but the form. It is the line that fascinates her, graphic symbols like letters of an alphabet, writing, cardiograms, Chinese characters and fractals, the rhythm of the lines and the spaces amongst them. She uses the contrasts to achieve a form with a personal signature. Her goal is the discovery of new forms, some in clear, transparent structures and yet others in condensed complex patterns.
